In addition to strong programming skills, candidates for big data jobs need varying levels of experience with cloud infrastructure. The following are some sample certification resources, as well as a graduate program focused on mining data.

Mining Massive Data Sets Graduate Certificate – Stanford Graduate Certificate

Designed for software engineers, statisticians, predictive modelers, market researchers, analytics professionals, and data miners, the Mining Massive Data Sets Graduate Certificate requires four courses and demonstrates mastery of efficient, powerful techniques and algorithms for extracting information from large datasets like the Web, social network graphs and large document repositories. Cloudera – Multiple Certifications

With the recent merger of Cloudera and Hortonworks, many certification and training programs are available through Cloudera University that target different roles in big data, from architecture to data analyst and data scientist training. Cloudera also offers blended online/live instructor-led learning programs for developers for Spark and Hadoop, as well as administration and data analytics.

AWS (Amazon Web Services) Big Data Certification

This course focuses on the implementation of core AWS Big Data services according to basic architecture best practices, the design and maintenance of big data and the tools for automation of analysis. Visit aws.amazon.com to get certified.

IBM Certified Data Architect- Big data

This certification test has five sections and checks the skills of a data architect for working on solutions and for understanding the customer’s requirements. Learn more here.

SAS Certified Big Data Professional

This certification is for the professionals who want to build on the programming knowledge and learn big data analysis using SAS. The knowledge of Hadoop, Pig, Hive, and SAS helps in this exam. Check out sas.com for more info.

Oracle Business Intelligence Foundation Suite 11g Certified Implementation Specialist

MCSE: Data Management and Analytics

CAP – Certified Analytics Professional

If you want vendor independence so that you are not tied to a specific analytics platform, Certified Analytics Professional (CAP) may be for you. Applied AI with DeepLearning, IBM Watson IoT Data Science Certificate

For those who’d like to work in IoT, check out IBM’s Watson IoT Data Science Certification. Coding experience in Python is preferred, but they will consider any programming language as a place to start. Math skills, especially with linear algebra, are recommended but the course promises to cover the topics within the first week.
